Working both as a consultant and as part of the management team for operationally complex businesses like Siemens, trainline.com, Intercontinental Hotels, Will's roles were typically focussed on weaving together the activities from cross functional teams to build solutions that increased customer engagement, spend and profitability.
In 2016, based on the hypothesis that the levers to drive sustainability focussed outcomes were the same as those he had build his career on, he started his pivot towards sustainability.
Since then he has helped a tech business leverage data to reduce food waste for a budget airline, digitise the UK’s largest tech skills apprenticeship provider to materially reducing their carbon footprint, he was ESG programme lead the for Wagamama’s owner, The Restaurant Group and now is Head of Sustainability at Whitbread PLC, owners of Premier Inn who have over 850 Hotels in the UK and Germany and over 200 UK restaurants with brands such as Beefeater and Brewers Fayre – where he leads their ESG programme called Force For Good.

Having helped his previous employer scale and plant over 1.5 million trees in the developing world, Richard soon realised that whilst tree planting was great, it did not solve the climate change issue! This has to be solved through behaviour change and a consciousness shift in consumers, employers and manufacturers!
With that in mind, Play It Green was born out of a desire to create a solution to climate change and to do it in a transparent and conscious way.
Play It Green helps its customers with behaviour change, education, and positive environmental and social impact. They also support the sustainability journey at each and every step. From footprint reporting to science-based targets, from carbon literacy training to sustainable suppliers, they can help, and it all starts with their unique Climate Positive Workforce initiative!
Best of all, 10% of all turnover generated by Play It Green is regiven to good causes, as chosen by its customers!

With Russ’ Chemistry background and Gemma’s marketing skills, the two are making sure that Two Drifters rums are in the mix on the global rum stage, but are leading the way when it comes to credible sustainability in the drinks industry.
